Welcome to our class blog

Here you will keep your writing journal.  You will both post responses to topics given by the teacher and engage in free writes to improve your skill and creativity.  Please create your blog and share it in the link provided in the course.  Remember the first rule of writer's class--what happens in class stays in class. Many times a topic or freewrite might wander into touchy subjects, this is our safe place--no one shares anything written in here with anyone from outside of our family/class.

How Does a Poet Think? Above is a photograph of a lemon with snow on it.  There are a number of poetry ideas that can come from this photograph.  Some include: The photograph shows a contrast – there is a bright tasting fruit with cold snow. This idea could be applied to poetry.  A poet might write a poem about two people, one who behaves brightly, and one who behaves coldly. There is the question of whether the snow will damage the fruit or the tree. The idea of unknown possible damage could be used in poetry.  A poet could think of many situations where there is a sense of uncertainty about potential negative consequences. How Far is Too Far?

The freedom of speech seems like a basic human right. Though, some areas of the world have took this right away from their people. Here in Canada, it is obvious we fully approve of the freedom of speech by this being one of our greatest qualities, and one many are attracted to. It is hard to think that even the most accepting country has it’s limits. There are many cases where students and even teachers have been punished for what they have said. In many of these cases, there are just unpopular opinions, not even presented in a hurtful manner. As a student and citizen of Canada, I do believe all should have the freedom to speak, even if that is on a controversial topic. In the case of Alex Stone and Brendan Jones, both were students who were punished for their chosen assignment topics.
