Favorite Book Post
My favorite book that I’ve read is called A Tale For The Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. As funny as it is, I judged this book by it’s cover. The design’s vibrant colors and cartoon like style drew to look more into it. I then read the summary on the back and was intrigued by the unique setting and two-in-one story style.
This book takes place in two locations which is very unique. Though most of book takes place in Japan, it does go to America and even Canada. The characters as well go through hardship and I love following them through these problems and seeing how they overcome them. For instance, the main character Nao Yasutani has trouble adjusting to both Tokyo and America because of her constant moving. It’s interesting to see how she interacts in different lands. The author is able to make the setting very believable. While reading, I was able to feel like I was really there, even without having gone to Japan or America. She also incorporates all parts of the culture, such as language, religion, etc.
Furthermore, what makes this book different from any other, is that it tells the story of Nao through Ruth’s perseptive. It makes the book more involving to the audience by hearing what Ruth thinks of Nao’s story. There are, however, other books that do this as well, but I find A Tale For The Time Being handles both stories with equal attention. The author does not give too much information at once to make the reader confused and stressed to have to remember it all.
I am very picky with what kind of books I read. I tend to feel bored with the first few chapters, but in this book the author was able to get me interested from the very begin. Out of the all the books I’ve read, A Tale For The Time Being has to be the most interesting and always made me come back for more.
As ironic as it is, the first thing that draws me in about books is always the cover, especially since I'm also really picky with the books I read.
