Favourite Book
I usually enjoy every book that I do read, because it's a
whole different world I get to indulge in and experience. My most enjoyed book so far would
probably be And Both Were Young by Madeleine L'Engle. Although it was a book I read in grade school, it appeals to me still today because of the wonderful memories it has left me with. It really caught my attention to how much of an impact details can make within a story. It was about a
young American girl who was sent to boarding school in Switzerland after her
mother died. It takes place around the late 1940's; I really adore reading books that take place in
the past, because I do find myself to be a golden age thinker most of the time.
More importantly, it allows me to connect with the people before us; their life
and culture. What really made me content when reading the novel was the
descriptive scenery the author would paint in my mind. I remember her describing
the trains in the Swiss/France Mountains to be slithering up like snakes, and the Swiss grass to be still showcasing a summer green during autumn. She described one of the main characters to have straw colored hair, and Atlantic blue eyes. There is nothing more satisfying than accurate descriptions on people, places and things. They overall allow the reader to go deeper into the character's world. I really want to start changing my ways, and read random, large books to escape reality sometimes! I unfortunately don't do too much novel reading outside of English class. Any suggestions?
I am so the same! I enjoy every book I read, some more so that others, because, similar to what you wrote, it is a different world the reader gets to live in throughout the whole duration of the book. You get to go places you might not have otherwise, meet people you never will in real life, and learning things you might not have had you not dived between the lines of the book.
ReplyDeleteYeah exactly! It's a really unique thing you can't get from anything else.
DeleteI agree that when the author is able to describe the characters in a creative way, it makes the story feel more alive to the reader. You mentioned that many of the books you've read are tied to a memory and it really made me ask myself if I had any memories to the books I've read. I feel that each book I read not only builds long lasting memories, but also carries a special feeling for me.
ReplyDeleteYes me too, I love the special feeling each book gifts us with. :)
