Class Blog assignment #1
In order to become a writer you will need to read, read read! According to Stephen King, "if you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that."
Hopefully you come to this class as a reader if you want to be a writer, however, not all of you may read as often as you like. In today's fast paced society with a long list of built in distractions (video games, phone, twitter, tumbler etc.), we find less and less time to read, myself included. In order to become a better writer though you will need to read as much as you can in the genres that you are interested in reading/writing in so that you can learn from the best. Today's blog serves two purposes--one to get you thinking about books and a time in the past when you loved to read. Secondly, it gives us a chance to get to know each other and see who we might have something in common with. Add your blog to our site telling us what your favourite book you ever read was and outline why it is your favourite. Be sure to mention at least one technique the writer used that helped to draw you in. Don't worry about using the right words for the technique, just describe what you think the author did well. It might be creating characters that draw you in and are relatable, it might be the imagery the author uses etc. I can't wait to hear your choices-hopefully we will all get at least one book to add to our reading lists from this assignment as well. Look for my post on one of my favourite books coming soon......
